Black Ginger

First exclusively and authentically Thai restaurant to open in Saint Barthélémy, Black Ginger is the ultimate reference for the zingy spiciness of the Siam peninsula traditional cuisine

The Place

Located in the heart of lively and beautiful Gustavia, a lovely local abode is home to Black Ginger, a modern-looking restaurant in an open courtyard displaying a vivacious mix of red and black colors, surrounded by wooden interior and minimalist furniture, including the infamous Charles Eames chairs. A trio of Thai chefs, who are proud to call Bangkok their hometown, concocted the authentic Thai menu, which exhibit this rich cuisine’s absolute favorites, as well as more unconventional, creative dishes. What best describes authentic Thai food is balance of flavors: sweet, salty, sour, tangy mixtures that gets slapped by a confident use of a range of spices, such as the black pepper local Mahi-Mahi or the more traditional curries, spicy yet delicate and full-flavored dishes loved by people the world over. Enjoy these delightful Thai staples with one of their perfectly prepared cocktails, which celebrate all the richness of Thai cuisine, and you’re in for a dining experience we promise you will find only in nowhere else. If you feel like enjoying these amazing dishes in the comfort of your own home, Black Ginger offers a takeaway option, ‘Thai to Go’, located in a small wooden house next to the main restaurant. A must-try.

Opened in 2014 by Saint Barth’s most dynamic duo and long-time friends, Philippe, director of Hotel La Banane for 10 years, and Patrick, a restaurant expert for 30 years running, Black Ginger has gained the reputation, in just a couple years, of an extremely well-established restaurant, frequented by locals and visitors alike. Their appetite for adventure made them set this new challenge, as an authentic Thai restaurant lacked in St Barth’s gastronomic map. Surrounded by three chefs who came straight from Thailand’s capital city Bangkok, Somjet, Seree and Nutthakul, they wanted to make sure the Black Ginger culinary journey would be the most genuine. The three chefs, trained by the Joël Robuchon of Thai cuisine Vichit Mukura at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, made possible this audacious yet extremely rewarding endeavour, making the Black Ginger experience a truly unique one.
